Emerald Freight Express is Ireland’s premier independent Freight Forwarder, servicing Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Belfast. Established in 1981 the business mission is to provide transparent and economic transport solutions through excellence in service. A mission embodied by the team of 22.

The Challenge.

In 2017 Emerald Freight moved under new management. Striving to continue delivering excellent customer service and with a strategic focus on talent retention, the company needed new ways to sustainably engage and connect their workforce. Offering something for everyone was a key consideration.

We made a big effort to communicate internally when we launched the platform, coming up to Christmas it was the ideal time for us – a way to thank everyone for their ongoing commitment to the business with great saving opportunities

The Approach.

A tailored multi-modular solution including Recognition (with rewards), Learning, and Lifestyle Savings was recommended to deliver the highest impact. The Recognition module meets the requirement to connect and engage, supporting the existing thank you culture within Emerald Freight. Including Learning and Lifestyle Savings gives an extra dimension, a way for people to feel valued and connected outside of working hours.

The three modules are hosted on a single company-branded platform which can host other Emerald benefits on the HR Host module. Centralising all Emerald employee benefits gives a streamlined user experience while providing the leadership with invaluable data insights.

Emerald Freight launched the platform to their 22 staff in November 2017, initially rolling out Lifestyle Savings and Learning. The Recognition module was rolled out five months later in March 2018.

Following the launch an initial registration surge saw over 90% of employees log on to the system. The average number of visits per month during the first three months was 135, with approximately 198 unique purchase actions taken.

This trend continued into the first quarter of 2018 when Emerald Freight added Recognition to their platform. Within 3 months of launching the Recognition module 19 of 22 employees had engaged an average of 7 times per month. Month on month 27% of the workforce are receiving recognitions & rewards from their colleagues and managers.

“There is a lot of interaction with the social wall. Each recognition on there has 4 or 5 likes which is a big percentage in a small business. We can physically see the impact it is having among our workforce”
